#17 Villanova Hangs On for Wild Win at Providence, 94-91

On Wednesday, February 4, #17 Villanova led by as many as 20 points - in the second half - and managed to hang on for a wild win at Providence, 94-91, as PC trailed by just one with 1.1 seconds to play. As radio analyst Whitey Rigsby pointed out - "Villanova gave up 57 points in the second half - on the road - and won."

Scottie Reynolds had a game-high 31 points, including many free throws at crunch time (he was 13-15 from the line overall). Four other Wildcats reached double figures - Dwayne Anderson (19 points), with Dante Cunningham, Reggie Redding and Corey Fisher each contributing a dozen.

Three Providence Friars scored 20-plus points in the course of the remarkable, valiant comeback (there won't be a lot of losses, where you have three scorers with 20 or more points, but it happened to PC tonight). Villanova won its four straight contest, improving to 6-3 Big East, 18-4 overall, and moving into sole possession of fifth place in the 16-team conference. (All four teams above Villanova are ranked in the top 10 nationally.)

A more complete recap will be posted later.

Go Wildcats!
